Customs: The Largest Drug Smuggling During 2018 By Air
Era Fakta. Director General (Dirjen) of Customs and Excise, Heru Pambudi explained the mode of narcotics smuggling that often occurs during 2018. Most smuggling is revealed by air.
"If we look further at the modus operandi of smugglers, we Customs, National Narcotics Agency, TNI-Polri have revealed that during 2018 the biggest mode is air transportation. Usually this is carried by passengers carrying methamphetamine," Heru told reporters at the BNN office, Cawang, East Jakarta, Thursday (12/20/2018).
Customs and Excise revealed 196 cases of drug smuggling through air transportation during 2018. The next trend is through goods delivery services.
"The second through the post and the safekeeping service company is a trend that also increased dramatically from the previous year. In addition to other modes, both through land transportation and sea transportation through cargo and containers," Heru said.
Heru also explained the number of drugs that have been secured by Customs during 2018. There are 4,075 tons of narcotics and psychotropic drugs that are secured.
"In 2018 until December 19, the number that we managed to secure, especially narcotics and psychotropic drugs, was 4,075 tons. This has almost doubled with the previous year for a full year that we managed to capture 2,214 tons (narcotics in 2017)," Heru said.
Heru said that this catch is also twice as much as in 2016 which amounted to 947 kilos. The disclosure of the 2018 case also increased compared to 2017.
"This is with the number of cases that are also parallel with that in 2018 we have managed to reveal 414 cases rose compared to last year's 342 cases and 286 cases in the previous year," he concluded.
