2019, BNPB Focuses on Providing Training to Respond to Disasters

Pojok Nasional. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) will focus on providing disaster response training in 2019.

"So for education, this is our routine program. Especially for 2019, we will focus more on training, both for internal BNPB and (external)," BNPB Head Willem Rampangilei said at a press conference at Graha BNPB, East Jakarta, Wednesday ( 12/19/2018).

He revealed, currently disaster management training is being drafted for the Military District Commander (Dandim) and Military Resort Commander (Danrem).

"For example, we are now designing special training for Dandim and Danrem throughout Indonesia. That is the result of my conversation with the TNI Commander," he said.

Training targeted specifically at the Dandim and Danrem is based on the two positions often being appointed as commanders or leaders in the event of a disaster.

Therefore, education and training on disaster management are considered important to be provided to these two positions.

Willem also hopes that all Dandim and Danrem can take part in the training within one year.

Likewise with the Resort Police Chiefs (Kapolres) who will also be given the training.

Meanwhile, related to disaster management education for students, BNPB claimed that it was still awaiting the decision of the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud).

According to Willem, his party had discussed disaster response education so that it would be included in the curriculum two years ago.

He also hopes that there will be a decision from the Ministry of Education and Culture in the near future.

"We discussed this 2 years ago with the Ministry of Education, the results we are waiting for," Willem explained. "Hopefully, in the near future there will be a decision on whether this disaster management can be included in the education curriculum," he continued.
